Tuesday Reading

Tuesday Reading – “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Today we have one of my favorite Hawthorne short stories and one I teach almost every semester.  We are discussing the Puritans in class for the next few weeks and it is always interesting to hear what the students have to say after reading actual Puritan writings and then looking at Hawthorne’s version.  My class has a focus on how history and literature can shape the myths that we end up with in modern ideas about the past.  Hawthorne plays a huge role in the ideas we have about the Puritans.

Check out “Young Goodman Brown” at the Donald Correll’s Road to Great Cthulhu site.
