King is nailing it with his Bill Hodges novels. Finders Keepers has the perfect premise of stolen notebooks from an American novelist who let down his audience. King’s themes of readers who love novelist’s characters a little too much is re-visited here and it works so well. I wanted to read the Jimmy Gold novels and watch the true crime documentary of the John Rothstein murders.
There are few authors who can wait until part two of a novel to bring in the main character of the series. King does this perfectly. Hodges comes in when he is needed. Just about the time the reader thinks, “Hodges could fix all this up,” we catch up with what him and his team of odd-balls have been doing and their on the case.
This is a great individual read, but I also recommend Mr. Mercedes and I am looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
